Michel Teló (born on January 21, 1981) is a famous Brazilian singer and songwriter. He is best known for his sertanejo music. Before becoming a solo artist, he was the lead singer for several bands, especially Grupo Tradição. His biggest hit, "Ai Se Eu Te Pego," became a number one song in many countries around the world.
Michel Teló started his music journey very early. In 1987, when he was just six years old, he sang his first solo song in his school choir. At age ten, his dad gave him an accordion, which is a musical instrument. When he was 12, his friends and family encouraged him to form a band called "Guri." In this band, he was the lead singer and also wrote songs. Besides the accordion, Michel also learned to play the piano, harmonica, and guitar. He was also a dancer!

Time with Grupo Tradição (1997–2008)
In 1997, Michel Teló joined a popular band called Grupo Tradição. He sang many of their biggest hits, like "Barquinho" and "O Caldeirão." He stayed with the band for over ten years. In 2008, he decided to leave Grupo Tradição to start his own music career. His last album with the band was even nominated for a Latin Grammy Award.
Becoming a Solo Star (2008–present)
Michel Teló released his first solo album, Balada Sertaneja, in 2009. It had popular songs like "Ei, psiu! Beijo me liga." His live album, Michel Teló – Ao Vivo, was a huge success. It earned him a gold disc award. This album also featured his hit song “Fugidinha,” which became number one in Brazil.
In 2011, Michel Teló was very busy, performing over 240 shows! Forbes magazine reported that more than 17 million people watched his "Fugidinha Tour." He reportedly earned a lot of money that year. Michel has also released several DVDs with his music. One of his DVDs, Michel Na Balada, included many new songs.
In 2014, Michel Teló worked with the singer Prince Royce. They created a Portuguese version of Royce's song "Darte un Beso." They even performed it together live at an awards show.
From 2015 to 2023, Michel Teló was a coach on the TV shows The Voice Brasil and The Voice Kids Brasil. He was very successful, with his team winning 8 out of 11 seasons. This makes him one of the most successful coaches in "The Voice" history.
Global Hit: "Ai Se Eu Te Pego"
In 2011, Michel Teló released the song "Ai Se Eu Te Pego." This song became incredibly popular around the world. It gained a lot of fame when Brazilian soccer player Neymar danced to it in a video that went viral online.
Soon, other famous soccer players started dancing to the song to celebrate goals. Players like Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid danced to it. André Santos from Arsenal also danced to it after scoring a goal. Many other players from different teams and countries also celebrated with the "Ai Se Eu Te Pego" dance. This helped the song become a huge international hit.
Awards and Recognitions
Michel Teló has won several awards for his music. In 2012, he won the "Best Tormentone" award at the TRL Awards. He also performed "Oh If I Catch You" at the Billboard Latin Music Awards that year.
In 2013, Michel Teló was nominated for seven different categories at the Billboard Latin Music Awards. He won the important "Song of the Year" award for his hit song “Ai Se Eu Te Pego.”
His album Bem Sertanejo was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in 2015. Later, his albums Churrasco do Teló Vol. 2 (in 2020) and Pra Ouvir no Fone (in 2021) were also nominated for the same Latin Grammy award.
