Michwacho Lake is a freshwater lake in Quebec, Canada. The Chibougamau River flows through it. It is located in the southern part of the Eeyou Istchee James Bay area. This region is in Nord-du-Québec.
The entire lake is within the Township of Opemisca. The main activity in this area is logging. Tourism, like fishing and camping, is also very important.
You can reach Michwacho Lake by a forest road. This road goes around Lake Normandy. It also connects to Highway 113. This highway links the towns of Lebel-sur-Quévillon and Chibougamau.
The lake usually freezes over from early November. It stays frozen until mid-May. It is safest to be on the ice from mid-November to mid-April.
About Michwacho Lake
The Chibougamau River flows through Michwacho Lake. It enters from the south and exits to the north. The lake has a long piece of land, called a peninsula. This peninsula stretches northeast for 3.2 kilometres (2.0 mi). It helps guide the river's flow.
Another lake, Shamrock Lake, also feeds into Michwacho Lake from the west. Shamrock Lake has 29 islands.
A bay of Michwacho Lake reaches southwest. It goes to the base of Mount Michwacho. This mountain is 538 metres (1,765 ft) tall. Another bay connects to the north side. It stretches west for 1.1 kilometres (0.68 mi). This bay reaches the base of Mount Roy, which is 498 metres (1,634 ft) high.
Michwacho Lake is 9.6 kilometres (6.0 mi) long. It is 1.9 kilometres (1.2 mi) wide at its widest point. The lake sits at an elevation of 351 metres (1,152 ft) above sea level.
The water flows out of Michwacho Lake from a bay on its north side. This exit point is:
- 52.8 kilometres (32.8 mi) west of Chibougamau Lake.
- 71.8 kilometres (44.6 mi) northeast of where the Chibougamau River meets the Opawica River.
- 134.6 kilometres (83.6 mi) northeast of the mouth of Goéland Lake.

- 23.3 kilometres (14.5 mi) northwest of the village of Chapais, Quebec.

In the past, Michwacho Lake was known by other names. These included "Mikwasash Lake" and "Wikwasash Lake."
