Mike Hanke was born on November 5, 1983. He is a German former professional footballer. He played as a forward, which means he was a player who tried to score goals. People often said he always gave his best and was a danger to the other team near their goal.
Mike Hanke played for the German national team from 2005 to 2007. He was part of the teams that finished third in two big tournaments. These were the 2005 Confederations Cup and the 2006 World Cup, both held in Germany.

Mike Hanke's Football Journey
Playing for Different Clubs
Mike Hanke started his professional career in the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league. He made his first appearance in the 2001–02 season for Schalke 04. He stayed with Schalke for several years.
In the 2005–06 season, he moved to VfL Wolfsburg. The manager at the time, Thomas Strunz, specifically asked for him to join the team.
Moving to Hannover and Beyond
In May 2007, Hanke joined Hannover 96. He scored eleven goals in the league for them. His team finished in the middle of the league table that season.
After playing for Hannover 96 for three and a half seasons, he transferred to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
On May 31, 2013, Mike Hanke moved to SC Freiburg without a transfer fee. He was excited about this move. He said he liked the team and felt he would fit in well. He was also keen to help the younger players grow. Playing in Europe again was another reason he joined the club.
In July 2014, Hanke moved to China. He joined a team called Guizhou Renhe in the Chinese Super League. He played there for about six months before returning to Germany.
Playing for Germany
Mike Hanke first played for the German national team on June 8, 2005. This was a friendly match against Russia, which ended in a 2–2 draw. He came into the game as a substitute.
Confederations Cup and World Cup
In his second game for Germany, he scored his only international goal. This happened on June 18, 2005, against Tunisia in the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. He came on as a substitute and scored one minute later, helping Germany win 3–0. In the same tournament, he was sent off with a red card in a match against Mexico.
He was chosen for the German team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. However, he missed the first two group matches because of the red card he received earlier. He played as a substitute in the third-place play-off match. Germany won that game 3–1 against Portugal.
Hanke also played in three qualifying matches for the Euro 2008 tournament. His last game for Germany was on November 17, 2007. Germany won that match 4–0 against Cyprus.
