Mike Hanke's Football Journey

Playing for Different Clubs

Mike Hanke started his professional career in the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league. He made his first appearance in the 2001–02 season for Schalke 04. He stayed with Schalke for several years.

In the 2005–06 season, he moved to VfL Wolfsburg. The manager at the time, Thomas Strunz, specifically asked for him to join the team.

Moving to Hannover and Beyond

In May 2007, Hanke joined Hannover 96. He scored eleven goals in the league for them. His team finished in the middle of the league table that season.

After playing for Hannover 96 for three and a half seasons, he transferred to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

On May 31, 2013, Mike Hanke moved to SC Freiburg without a transfer fee. He was excited about this move. He said he liked the team and felt he would fit in well. He was also keen to help the younger players grow. Playing in Europe again was another reason he joined the club.

In July 2014, Hanke moved to China. He joined a team called Guizhou Renhe in the Chinese Super League. He played there for about six months before returning to Germany.

Playing for Germany

Confederations Cup and World Cup

He came on as a substitute and scored one minute later, helping Germany win 3–0. In the same tournament, he was sent off with a red card in a match against Mexico.

He was chosen for the German team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. However, he missed the first two group matches because of the red card he received earlier. He played as a substitute in the third-place play-off match. Germany won that game 3–1 against Portugal.

Hanke also played in three qualifying matches for the Euro 2008 tournament. His last game for Germany was on November 17, 2007. Germany won that match 4–0 against Cyprus.
