Mike Hanke is a German former footballer who played as a forward. He was born on November 5, 1983. People often described him as a player who always gave his best in attack. He was also known for being a threat in the opponent's goal area.
Hanke played 12 games for the German national team between 2005 and 2007. He was part of the teams that finished third in two big tournaments. These were the 2005 Confederations Cup and the 2006 World Cup. Both tournaments took place in Germany.

Playing for Clubs
Mike Hanke was born in Hamm, Germany. He started his professional career in the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league. His first team was Schalke 04 in the 2001–02 season.
Moving to New Teams
In the 2005–06 season, Hanke moved to VfL Wolfsburg. This move happened because the manager of Wolfsburg, Thomas Strunz, wanted him.
In May 2007, Hanke joined Hannover 96. He scored eleven goals in the league for them. His team finished in the middle of the league table that season.
After playing for Hannover 96 for three and a half seasons, he moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Later Club Career
On May 31, 2013, Hanke joined SC Freiburg for free. He said he liked the club and felt he would fit in well. He was also excited to play in European competitions again. Hanke felt it was his job to help the younger players grow.
On July 8, 2014, Hanke moved to Chinese Super League team Guizhou Renhe. He played there for half a year before returning to Germany. He retired from professional football after this.
Playing for Germany
Mike Hanke first played for the German national team on June 8, 2005. It was a friendly game against Russia that ended in a 2–2 draw. He came into the game as a substitute.
First Goal and Red Card
In his second game, on June 18, 2005, he played against Tunisia. This was during the group stage of the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup. He scored his only goal for Germany just one minute after coming on. Germany won that game 3–0.
He started his first game for Germany on June 29, 2005. This was the third-place play-off against Mexico. However, he received a red card and was sent off the field during the game.
World Cup Experience
Hanke was part of the German team for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Because of the red card he got in the Confederations Cup, he missed the first two group games. He played as a substitute in the third-place play-off. Germany won that game 3–1 against Portugal.
He played in three of Germany's qualifying games for Euro 2008. His last game for Germany was on November 17, 2007. Germany won that game 4–0 against Cyprus.
