College Career at Miami

During his college career, Rumph made 117 tackles and forced two fumbles. He also caught six interceptions, even running one back for a touchdown. Playing in the NFL
San Francisco 49ers Years
The San Francisco 49ers picked Michael Rumph in the first round of the 2002 NFL draft. He was the 27th player chosen overall. When he first joined, he played as a cornerback. However, the 49ers soon moved him to play safety. This change happened because he was a strong tackler, but he struggled a bit with covering players one-on-one. Unfortunately, he missed many games in the 2004 and 2005 seasons due to injuries.
Time with Washington and St. Louis
On August 14, 2006, Rumph was traded to the Washington Redskins. He played for them for a short time before they released him on December 27, 2006.
After that, the St. Louis Rams signed him on March 20, 2007. But he was released again on August 3, 2007. Michael Rumph officially retired from playing professional football in July 2008.
Life After the NFL
After his playing career, Michael Rumph started coaching. In 2010, he became an assistant coach for the Miramar Everglades team. He then coached briefly at the Miami Carol City Senior High School.
Later, he became the head coach for the varsity football team at American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida. He coached there until 2015. In 2013, he took over from former Miami Dolphins player and coach Jeff Dellenbach. After leaving American Heritage, Rumph accepted a coaching job at the University of Miami. He worked there as the cornerbacks coach for several years.
