Minneola's History
Minneola started as a town in 1887. Its unique name comes from combining the names of two pioneer wives: Minnie Davis and Ola Watson. Before Minneola, there was a town called Appleton. The post office from Appleton moved to Minneola in 1888.

Minneola's Economy
Minneola grew because it was close to the Rock Island rail line. Today, it's also located where two important roads meet: U.S. Route 54 and U.S. Route 283.
The Minneola Co-op has a large grain elevator at the north edge of town. It stands tall along the rail line and you can see it from far away! Most businesses in Minneola focus on farming and ranching needs. The Minneola Record, a local newspaper, started in 1906. It is thought to be the oldest business that has been running continuously in the town.

Minneola's Schools
The public schools in Minneola are part of the Minneola USD 219 school district. Minneola High School moved into a new building in 2006. This new building has modern science labs and computer classrooms. Students can join sports teams, band, and choir. The high school has about 80 students and 10 teachers. Their mascot is a Wildcat, and the school colors are purple and gold.
The Minneola Wildcats football team won the Kansas State High School 8-Man championship in 1980.
The grade school offers a small class size, so students get lots of individual attention. At the end of the school year in May, the town often celebrates with a parade downtown. This event is called Community Day and has been happening for many decades.
Minneola's Library
Minneola has a modern library. It lends out about 14,000 books each year. The library also offers computers for people to use.
Minneola's Public Services and Parks
Minneola has its own hospital, the Minneola District Hospital.
A volunteer fire department helps keep the community safe. The Clark County Sheriff's Department also works in Minneola. In 2017, the city started its own police department.
Centennial Park has a stone shelter that local farmers built in the 1940s. They used rocks from the area. The shelter was fixed up around 1987, when the town turned 100 years old. A war memorial was also put there at that time.
The town's swimming pool, built in 1969, has been completely updated. It offers swimming lessons during the warmer months. The civic center is a place for meetings and parties. Its kitchen prepares meals for 130 seniors in the area every weekday.
