Moel-yr-hydd is a mountain peak located in Snowdonia, North Wales. It's like a smaller peak that stands next to the larger mountain, Moelwyn Mawr. Together, these mountains are part of a group called the Moelwynion.
Even though Moel-yr-hydd is in the Snowdonia area, it's not actually inside the official Snowdonia National Park. This is because the park has a special "hole" around the old slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Areas like towns are sometimes left out of national parks.

Exploring Moel-yr-hydd
Moel-yr-hydd offers great views of the nearby village of Tanygrisiau. You can also see the Tanygrisiau railway station, which is a stop on the famous Ffestiniog Railway. This railway is a narrow-gauge line that has been running for a very long time.
Getting to the Top
The mountain is quite easy to climb, especially if you start from the Tanygrisiau railway station. It's a popular spot for hikers who want to explore the beautiful Welsh landscape.
A Look at History: Wrysgan Quarry
For many years, from the 1830s until 1946, there was a place called Wrysgan Quarry on the side of Moel-yr-hydd. A quarry is where stone or slate is dug out of the ground.
Underground Chambers
At Wrysgan Quarry, workers dug deep into the mountain. They created large underground rooms and tunnels right beneath the summit of Moel-yr-hydd. These chambers were part of the slate mining operations that were very important to the area's history.
