Early Life and Education

Mohammed George was born in Hackney, a part of East London, England. His mother is from Jamaica and his father is from Antigua. He trained as an actor at the famous Sylvia Young Theatre School.

Acting Career

Television Roles

Before his famous role in EastEnders, George appeared in several other TV shows. He had guest roles in Holby City and The Last Detective. He also played Dennis Quayle in the children's show Renford Rejects in 2000.

His biggest role was as Gus Smith on EastEnders. He was a main character on the show for six years, appearing in 319 episodes.

Leaving EastEnders

In 2008, George and the producers of EastEnders agreed that he would leave the show. This happened after some newspapers wrote stories about his personal life. George later said he felt he had to leave because of these headlines, which he later proved were not true. Leaving the show was a difficult time for him, and he has spoken about feeling down afterward.

Clearing His Name

George took legal action against newspapers that he said printed untrue things about him. In 2009, he won a case against The Sun newspaper. The next year, the Daily Star newspaper also apologized to him and paid him for a false story they had printed.

Life After EastEnders

After leaving the show, George focused on new interests. He is now a professional DJ and plays music at clubs all over the United Kingdom.

He has also continued to act. In 2016, he was nominated for Best Actor at the British Urban Film Festival. The nomination was for his role in a short film called "Murder Capital."
