Montverde is a small town located in Lake County, Florida, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,655 people lived there. It's considered part of the larger Orlando area.

History of Montverde
Montverde was once a place where Native American people lived. The first American settlers arrived around 1865. They first called the area "West Lake Apopka."
The town got its current name, "Montverde," from a settler who came from Vermont. When he arrived by boat on Lake Apopka, he noticed the beautiful green, rolling hills. "Monte Verde" means "green mountain" in Spanish. The town officially became known as the Town of Montverde on May 18, 1925.
A very important part of Montverde is Montverde Academy. This is a private school for students from elementary to high school. It first opened its doors in 1912.
Geography and Location
Montverde is located in Central Florida. You can find it at these coordinates: 28 degrees, 35 minutes, 50 seconds North and 81 degrees, 40 minutes, 43 seconds West.
The town sits on the southwest side of Lake Apopka. It is about 18 miles south of Tavares, which is the main city of Lake County. Montverde is also about 24 miles northwest of the big city of Orlando.
The total area of Montverde is about 1.88 square miles (4.9 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 1.67 square miles (4.3 square kilometers). The rest, about 0.21 square miles (0.5 square kilometers), is water.

- Precious Achiuwa is an NBA basketball player for the Miami Heat. He went to Montverde Academy from 2018 to 2019.
- Cade Cunningham is another NBA basketball player, playing for the Detroit Pistons. He also attended Montverde Academy from 2018 to 2020. He was the very first player chosen in the 2021 NBA draft.
- Ben Simmons plays in the NBA for the Philadelphia 76ers. He was a student at Montverde Academy from 2013 to 2015.
