Monzavous "Rae" Edwards (born May 7, 1981) is an American sprint athlete. He is known for his speed in races like the 100 meters.

Monzavous Edwards' Early Career

Monzavous Edwards started his running career as a young athlete in 2000. He quickly showed his talent. He won both the USA Junior and Junior College (JUCO) championships. These wins were for the 100 and 200 meters races. He also competed in the 2000 World Junior Championships in Athletics. There, he reached the semifinals for the 100 m and the quarterfinals for the 200 m.

Becoming a Top Sprinter

In 2003, Edwards reached the final of the USA Outdoor Championships. He set a new personal best time of 10.09 seconds. He tried out for the US Olympic team for the 2004 Athens Olympics. However, he did not make it past the quarterfinals. That year, he received a public warning for a minor rule violation.

In 2005, he matched his personal best of 10.09 seconds. He finished sixth in the 100 m final at the US Outdoor Championships. This earned him a spot as an alternate for the United States relay team. This was for the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. He did not get to compete in that event. Later in 2005, he ran an even faster time of 10.08 seconds in Malmö, Sweden.

Later Career and Achievements

The years 2006 and 2007 were quieter for Edwards. However, he was part of a team that won a bronze medal. This was for the relay race at the 2007 Pan American Games. In 2008, he competed again at the US Olympic trials. This time it was for the Beijing Games. He set a new personal best of 10.06 seconds in the qualifying rounds.

Breaking Records and World Championships

At the start of the 2009 outdoor season, Edwards greatly improved his 200 m time. He went from 20.46 to 20.17 seconds. This happened at the Grande Premio Brasil Caixa de Atletismo. The next month, he improved his 100 m record to 10.02 seconds. This was at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in Hengelo. He finished second in that race.

Edwards finished third in the national championships with a fast time of 10.00 seconds. This helped him qualify for his first major senior championship. This was the 2009 World Championships in Athletics. He competed alongside other top sprinters.
