Mooski's Early Life and Music Career
Darien Hinton, or Mooski, grew up in Opp, Alabama. His family is of African-American descent. Mooski was interested in music from a young age. He sang in his local church choir. He started his music journey as a Gospel rapper. Later, he switched to hip hop after listening to artists like Lil Wayne and Drake. He also enjoyed music from PnB Rock, Fetty Wap, and Kevin Gates.
After finishing high school in 2015, Mooski joined the United States Marine Corps. He served for four years. After his time in the Marines, he began to focus on his music career.
How "Track Star" Became a Hit
In June 2020, Mooski first shared his song "Track Star" on TikTok. The song quickly became super popular, getting over 475 million views! In February 2021, the song was officially released as a single by Capitol Records.
"Track Star" then entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 99. It climbed all the way to number 31. The song stayed on the chart for 20 weeks, which was a long time! It also reached number 53 on the UK Singles Chart in the United Kingdom.
As mentioned, a remix of "Track Star" came out on May 18, 2021. It featured A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Chris Brown, and Yung Bleu.
