Morice Town is a cool neighbourhood, also known as a suburb, located in the city of Plymouth. You can find it in the county of Devon in England. It's a part of a busy port city with a long history.

Discovering Morice Town

Morice Town is a lively area within Plymouth. It's known for its connection to the city's important Dockyard. Many people who work or have worked at the Dockyard live here.

How Morice Town Got Its Name

This area is named after a very important person from the past: Sir William Morice. He was a wealthy landowner. Back when Morice Town was being built, Sir William Morice owned the land. He decided to develop it to create homes. These homes were specifically for the many people who worked at the nearby Dockyard. That's how the neighbourhood got its name!

A Bit of History: Joining Plymouth

Morice Town wasn't always part of Plymouth. It actually started as a part of a different town called Devonport. Devonport was one of three important towns in the area. These three towns were Plymouth, Stonehouse, and Devonport. People often called them the "Three Towns."

In 1914, something big happened. The "Three Towns" decided to join together. This process is called an amalgamation. It means they officially became one larger city. After this, Morice Town, which was part of Devonport, became a part of the bigger city of Plymouth. This made Plymouth the large and important city it is today.
