Where is Mornington?
The Leichhardt River flows through the town of Mount Isa. This river divides the town into two main parts. The area west of the river is called the "mineside". The area east of the river is known as the "townside". Mornington is located on the "townside" of Mount Isa.

Mornington got its name on September 1, 1973. The Queensland Place Names Board officially named it. Before that, it was known as a "locality". On March 16, 2001, Mornington officially became a suburb.
