History of Moscow
Moscow has an interesting past. In the late 1980s, a large radar station was built here. It was called the Moscow Air Force Station. A radar station uses special equipment to detect objects far away, like airplanes. This station had many tall steel antenna towers. It covered a huge area of land, about 1,494 acres!
The station stopped working in 2002. After that, the land was put up for sale in 2011. There was an idea to build a wind farm on the land. A wind farm uses large wind turbines to create electricity. The town even started making rules for where these turbines could be placed. By late 2011, the old radar towers were taken down. However, some other buildings and microwave towers remained. The land was still being auctioned off. Because the government owned this land, the town of Moscow could not collect property taxes from it for many years.
