Moulay Hassan (born May 8, 2003) is the Crown Prince of Morocco. This means he is next in line to become the King of Morocco. He is the older child of King Mohammed VI and Princess Lalla Salma. He has a younger sister named Princess Khadija. He was named after his grandfather, King Hassan II. Since 2013, when he was 10 years old, he has started joining his father at official public events.
Growing Up and School
Moulay Hassan was born at the Royal Palace in Rabat, Morocco. His parents are King Mohammed VI and Princess Lalla Salma. He is the oldest child of the current king.
He went to school at the Royal College in Rabat. This is a special school for royalty. Moulay Hassan is a polyglot, which means he speaks many languages. He can speak Arabic, Tamazight, English, French, and Spanish.
Even as a teenager, Moulay Hassan held a high rank in the Moroccan military. He was a Colonel in the Royal Guard, the Royal Army, and the Royal Air Force.
In 2020, he finished high school with great results from the Royal College. After that, he started studying at the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P). He chose to study international relations, which is about how different countries work together.
Royal Duties
As the Crown Prince, Moulay Hassan has important duties. In 2017, he was the youngest person to attend the One Planet Summit in France. This event was about protecting our planet. His participation there made him known around the world. He is following in his father's footsteps by taking part in such important events.
On June 28, 2019, Moulay Hassan represented his father, King Mohammed VI. He attended the opening of a new part of the Tanger Med port. This port is very important for trade in the Mediterranean Sea.
Later that year, on September 30, Moulay Hassan went to Paris. He attended the funeral of the former French President, Jacques Chirac. He also joined a lunch hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron for the leaders who were there.
On November 17, 2022, Moulay Hassan opened a special exhibition in Rabat. It was about the life of the Prophet and Islamic history. On December 20, 2022, he joined his father, the King, and his uncle, Prince Moulay Rachid. They welcomed the national football team at the Royal Palace. This was to celebrate their amazing performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Hobbies and Interests
Moulay Hassan enjoys sports like football and basketball. When he was younger, he played football at a training center in Rabat. He played with children of soldiers. He also loves horse riding, and his father, King Mohammed VI, helps him with his training.
In 2014, when he was 10, his father gave him a luxury car. This was his first car registered in his name. In 2018, a special private jet was given to him for his use as Crown Prince. He was very keen to play basketball with his university club, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Awards and Honors
France: He received the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour on October 29, 2024. This is a very high award from France.
Tunisia: He received the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Republic from Tunisia on May 31, 2014.
