Mount Alice is a tall mountain in the Kenai Mountains of Alaska. It stands about 5,318 feet (1,621 meters) high. This impressive peak is located in the Chugach National Forest. It rises high above the Resurrection River and Resurrection Bay. The mountain is about 6.2 miles (10 km) northeast of Seward, Alaska. From Seward, it looks like the highest point on the horizon.
The United States Geological Survey officially named Mount Alice in 1983. It was named after Alice Lowell Scheffler (1879-1965). Alice was the daughter of Franklin G. Lowell. His family were among the first settlers to make their home in the Seward area back in 1883.

Climbing Mount Alice
The first time anyone reached the top of Mount Alice was in 1963. This successful climb was made by John Vincent Hoeman, David Johnston, and D. Hilt.
Best Routes for Climbing
The usual way to climb Mount Alice is along its southwest face. This path involves climbing steep snow. It also includes some traditional rock climbing, which is rated as a YDS 5.0 difficulty.
Climate Around Mount Alice
Mount Alice is in a subarctic climate zone. This means it has long, cold, and snowy winters. The summers are usually mild.
Temperatures and Weather
Winter temperatures can drop very low, sometimes below −20 °C. With the wind chill, it can feel even colder, below −30 °C. Despite the cold, this climate helps a forest of spruce and hemlock trees grow on the lower western slopes. There is also a huge glacier called Godwin Glacier on the eastern side of the mountain.
The best time to climb Mount Alice is usually in May and June. The weather during these months is often more favorable for climbing.
