Mount Annan is a suburb located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It's about 60 kilometres south-west of the main city area of Sydney. Mount Annan is part of the Macarthur region. It is managed by two local councils: Camden Council and Campbelltown City Council.

History of Mount Annan

The land where Mount Annan is today was first home to the Dharawal people. They were an Aboriginal group from the Illawarra region. Other Aboriginal groups, like the Darug people and Gandangara people, also lived in the wider Camden area.

When British settlers first arrived, they got along well with the Aboriginal people. However, as farmers started clearing land for farms, it affected the food sources for the Aboriginal groups. This led to conflicts. In 1816, many Aboriginal people were killed, and the rest moved away from the settlers.

In 1805, a man named John Macarthur received a large piece of land, about 20 square kilometres. This land was used for farming for nearly 200 years. Later, as Sydney grew, this farmland was divided into blocks for houses. This is how modern suburbs like Mount Annan were created.
