About Mount Denver
Location and Name
Mount Denver is located inside the beautiful Valhalla Provincial Park. You can find it about 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) west of Slocan Lake. It's also about 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) west-southwest of a town called New Denver.
The mountain gets its name from the nearby town of New Denver. Interestingly, New Denver itself was named after the city of Denver, Colorado, in the United States. The name 'Mount Denver' was officially recognized and adopted on March 31, 1924, by the Geographical Names Board of Canada.
Weather and Environment
Mount Denver experiences what is called a subarctic climate. This means the mountain has very cold and snowy winters. During these months, temperatures can drop below −20 degrees Celsius (−4 degrees Fahrenheit). With the wind, it can feel even colder, sometimes below −30 degrees Celsius (−22 degrees Fahrenheit)!
Summers on Mount Denver are generally mild. The mountain gets a lot of precipitation (rain and snow). The melting snow and ice from the New Denver Glacier, which is on the north side of the mountain, flow into streams. These streams then join the Slocan River.
