Mount Frederick William is a mountain located in British Columbia, Canada. It stands tall at the Queen Reach arm of the Jervis Inlet, which is part of the Pacific Ranges within the Coast Mountains. This mountain has an interesting history, including how it got its name and a fun nickname!
Naming the Mountain
Mount Frederick William was named during a special survey in the 1860s. A British ship called the HMS Plumper was exploring and mapping the entire area. The people on the ship decided to name this mountain after a very important person: Crown Prince Frederick William of Prussia.
A Royal Connection
Crown Prince Frederick William was a prince from Prussia, which is now part of Germany. He married Princess Victoria, who was the oldest child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of the United Kingdom. Naming the mountain after him was a way to honor this royal connection.
The "Frankenstein" Nickname
This mountain has a unique nickname: "Frankenstein." If you look closely, especially from certain angles, the mountain's shape looks a lot like the famous monster's face from the 1931 movie, Frankenstein. It's a fun way to remember its distinct profile!
