Mount Grant is a tall and important mountain in Nevada, United States. It is the highest point in the Wassuk Range and in Mineral County. It's also one of the most "prominent" mountains in Nevada. This means it stands out a lot from the land around it. Mount Grant is inside the Hawthorne Army Depot, so it's hard for people to visit it.

How Mount Grant Got Its Name

Mount Grant is named after Ulysses S. Grant. He was a famous general during the American Civil War. Later, he became the 18th President of the United States. He lived from 1822 to 1885.

Mount Grant and the Northern Paiute People

For the Northern Paiute people, Mount Grant is a very special place. In their language, they call it Kurangwa. This mountain is important in their creation stories. These stories tell how the world and everything in it came to be.

The Northern Paiute people's ancestors lived near the mountain for many years. They moved around with the seasons. Kurangwa is a sacred being to them. They believe it helped create Walker Lake, which they call Agai Pah.
