List of highest points in Nevada by county facts for kids
Nevada is a state in the United States known for its deserts and mountains. This article lists the highest points in each of Nevada's counties. These are the tallest spots you can find in every part of the state.
Knowing these high points helps us understand the state's geography. It shows us where the land reaches its highest elevations.
How We Measure Mountain Heights
The heights of these points are measured very carefully. They use a special system called the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). This system helps scientists measure heights accurately across North America.
Most of these measurements come from the National Geodetic Survey. This group is responsible for mapping and measuring land in the U.S. Some heights also come from United States Geological Survey maps. These maps show the shape of the land.
Sometimes, a plus sign (+) is next to a height. This means the height was estimated using lines on a map called contour lines. These lines connect points of the same height. So, the actual height might be a little bit more than what is listed.
Nevada's Tallest Peaks
The very highest point in Nevada is Boundary Peak. It reaches an amazing 13,147 feet (4,007 meters) high! However, Boundary Peak is very close to a taller mountain in California called Montgomery Peak. Because of this, some people see Boundary Peak as part of that larger mountain.
The next highest peak is Wheeler Peak. This mountain is 13,065 feet (3,982 meters) tall. It stands out much more on its own compared to Boundary Peak. Wheeler Peak is a truly impressive mountain in Nevada.
