History of Mount Huxley
How Mount Huxley Got Its Name
A person named Theodore Solomons gave names to a series of mountains in this area. He named them after important scientists who studied the idea of evolution. Evolution is the idea that living things change over very long periods of time. These changes help them survive better in their environment.
Mount Huxley is named after an English biologist and anthropologist named Thomas Henry Huxley. He was a scientist who studied how living things are built, especially by comparing different animals. He was a big supporter of Charles Darwin's ideas about evolution. Because he defended Darwin's ideas so strongly, people often called him "Darwin's Bulldog."
