Mount Jackson is a mountain found in Coos County, New Hampshire. This mountain is named after Charles Thomas Jackson, who was New Hampshire's official geologist (a scientist who studies rocks and the Earth's structure) in the 1800s. Mount Jackson is part of the famous Presidential Range, which is a group of tall mountains within the larger White Mountains.
Mount Jackson has other mountains as neighbors. To its north, you'll find Mount Pierce. To its southwest, it's next to Mount Webster.
Hiking Mount Jackson
One of the most exciting things about Mount Jackson is that the Appalachian Trail goes right over its top! The Appalachian Trail is a super long hiking path, stretching about 2,170 miles (3,500 km). It goes all the way from Georgia in the south to Maine in the north.
As the trail crosses Mount Jackson, it's following the main ridge of the Presidential Range. This part of the trail connects Crawford Notch to the very tall Mount Washington. Mount Jackson is also located on the western side of the Presidential – Dry River Wilderness. This is a special protected area where nature is kept wild and untouched.
