The mountain is named to honor Don and Phyllis Munday. They were pioneering climbers and explorers. The Mundays were the first people to climb Mount Munday in 1930.
They spent many years exploring the southern Coast Mountains. They even discovered Mount Waddington, which they first called "Mystery Mountain." They saw it from Mount Arrowsmith on Vancouver Island. The Mundays explored the Waddington Range to find and measure this huge peak. They helped map many remote areas of British Columbia.
