What is Mount St John Like?
This area is quite flat. However, there is a small mountain called Mount St John in the south-east. It stands about 26 meters (85 feet) above sea level.
Most of the land in Mount St John is used for industrial purposes. This means you'll find many businesses and factories here. Part of the Townsville International Airport is also in the eastern corner of the suburb. However, you cannot get into the airport directly from Mount St John.
There are no regular houses or neighborhoods in Mount St John. But, there is a place called Coral Coast Tourist Park. It's a spot where visitors can stay.
A Look Back in Time
Early History
Mount St John is located on the traditional lands of the Wulgurukaba Aboriginal people. They are the original owners and custodians of this country.
The suburb got its name from a person called St John Robinson. He started some animal gardens, like a zoo, in this area a long time ago.
World War II Site
During World War II, the top of Mount St John mountain was an important place. It was home to the Mount St John Anti-Aircraft Battery. This battery was a group of big guns used to shoot down enemy planes.
In 2016, what was left of these old gun sites became part of a garden. It's now a special feature in a private home's landscaping.

The number of people living in Mount St John has grown recently. In 2016, there were 62 people. By 2021, the population had increased to 103 people.

Mount St John has some places that are "heritage-listed." This means they are important historical sites that need to be protected. One such place is the Mount St John Anti-Aircraft Battery at 43 Toll Street. It's recognized for its history from World War II.
Learning and Training
There are no regular primary or secondary schools directly in Mount St John. Children living nearby usually go to schools in other suburbs. For example, Garbutt State School is to the east, and Bohlevale State School is to the west. Heatley State College is the closest high school, located to the south.

This plant helps keep the environment clean for many nearby suburbs, including Kirwan and parts of Garbutt. After the water is cleaned, it's used to water the Rowes Bay golf course. Sometimes, it's also released into Snaggy Creek, which flows into the Bohle River.
