Mount Wright is a tall mountain in Alaska. It stands about 5,054 feet (1,540 meters) high. You can find it in the eastern part of the Alaskan panhandle. It's located inside the beautiful Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. The mountain sits on the east side of Muir Inlet, just north of Glacier Bay.

Where is Mount Wright?
Mount Wright is in a pretty wild area. It's south of places like Adams Inlet and Dirt Glacier. To its east, you'll find White Glacier and the Chilkat Range. It's also west of Garforth Island in Muir Inlet. The mountain is about 52 miles (84 km) northwest of a town called Hoonah.
The Story Behind the Name
Mount Wright was named in 1891 by Dr. Harry Fielding Reid. He named it after George Frederick Wright. George Wright had spent some time exploring the Glacier Bay area in 1886. Interestingly, there's another mountain with the same name. It's also called Mount Wright and is located about 43 miles (69 km) to the west.
Weather and Climate
Mount Wright has a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold and snowy winters. The summers are usually mild. Temperatures can drop below −4 °F (−20 °C). With the wind chill, it can feel even colder, sometimes below −22 °F (−30 °C). All the rain and melted snow from the mountain flows into the Glacier Bay Basin.

The area around Mount Wright is home to many animals. You can often see mountain goats living there. They are well-suited to the cold and rocky environment.
