Eriogonum parishii is a type of plant called wild buckwheat. Its common name is mountainmist. This plant is an annual herb, which means it grows, flowers, and dies within one year.
Where Mountainmist Grows
The mountainmist plant is mostly found in southern California. It grows in many mountain areas there. You can see it in places like the Sierra Nevada, White Mountains, and Inyo Mountains. It also grows in the Transverse Ranges and Peninsular Ranges.
This plant is also found further south in Baja California, which is in Mexico. You can even find it in Yavapai County, Arizona. It likes to grow on mountain slopes. It often grows in areas with sagebrush and chaparral plants. It especially likes sandy soil made from granite.
What Mountainmist Looks Like
The mountainmist plant grows in small groups or "clumps." It has green stems that spread out. These stems are smooth and have many branches that crisscross.
Its leaves are oval-shaped and a bit hairy. They grow near the bottom of the stems. These leaves are usually about 2 to 6 centimeters long.
The plant's flowers grow in clusters. These clusters form a wide, spreading shape. The tiny flowers are pink or reddish. They have darker red lines down the middle. Each flower is very small, usually less than a millimeter wide. They also feel a bit fuzzy.
