Mud Creek is a small stream located in the north central part of Missouri. It flows through two counties: Randolph County and Monroe County. Mud Creek is like a smaller helper stream, also known as a tributary, that eventually joins a larger river called the Middle Fork Salt River.
Where is Mud Creek?
Mud Creek begins in the northeastern part of Randolph County, Missouri. This starting point, called the headwaters, is found just northeast of a town called Cairo and near U. S. Route 63.
Mud Creek's Journey
From its start, Mud Creek first flows towards the northeast. Then, it makes a turn and heads southeast as it goes past a place known as Levicks Mill.
As the stream continues its journey, it turns east. This is where it crosses into Monroe County, just northwest of a small community called Ash. The creek then winds its way eastward, flowing under Missouri Route 151.
Finally, Mud Creek reaches its end point, which is called a confluence. Here, it joins the Middle Fork of the Salt River. This meeting point is about three miles northwest of the town of Holiday.
Why is it Called Mud Creek?
The name "Mud Creek" is quite simple to understand! The stream was given this name because its banks, which are the sides of the stream, are often very muddy.
