Muddy Creek is a stream in Johnson and Pettis Counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a smaller stream that flows into a larger one called the Lamine River.

Muddy Creek: A Missouri Stream

Muddy Creek starts in a part of southeastern Johnson County. This is where its "headwaters" are, which means the very beginning of the stream. It begins near the community of Sutherland and Missouri Route 23.

Where Muddy Creek Flows

From its start, Muddy Creek flows towards the northeast. It then enters Pettis County, passing about three miles southeast of Whiteman Air Force Base.

The stream continues its journey northeast. It goes under Missouri Route 127 about three miles south of LaMonte. It also passes under U.S. Route 50 about three miles west of Sedalia. Further along, it crosses under U.S. Route 65 about six miles north of Sedalia.

Muddy Creek flows south of the community of Newland. Finally, it joins the Lamine River just west of the line between Pettis and Cooper counties. This spot is about four miles north-northwest of Clifton City.

The name "Muddy Creek" is very simple to understand! The stream was given this name because its water often looks muddy.
