Mullica Hill has an interesting past. It was once two separate communities. One was called Spicerville, named after a man named Jacob Spicer. The other part, on the north side of Raccoon Creek, was called Mullica Hill.

The name Mullica Hill comes from the Mullica family. Sons of an early Swedish settler, Eric Pålsson Mullica, started buying land here in 1704. The name "Mullikkamäki" was the name of Eric's grandfather's house in Finland. It means "bull calf hill." Over time, both communities became known simply as Mullica Hill.

Many of Mullica Hill's historic buildings were built after the Civil War. The old town hall, which you can still see today, is one example. The town even holds a reenactment every fall to remember its history of growth in farming and industry after the Civil War.

In September 2021, a strong tornado hit the area. It was part of the storms from Hurricane Ida. The tornado caused damage to homes and farms in the community.
