Early Life and First Steps in Music
Nadia was born to Mario Lopez Hernández and Aurora Ayuso Rodriguez. She has an older brother named Mario Josuè. From a young age, Nadia loved to sing. However, she kept her dream a secret at first because her father wasn't sure about her performing.
With her mother's help, Nadia started entering singing contests, like "Fanta-sia Musical." Soon, her father saw her talent and began to support her. Nadia started getting musical jobs. When she was 14, she was a presenter and singer on a TV show called "Panorama Musical." She also presented "La Guelaguetza." She even sang with her father's mariachi group while working in a restaurant.
Becoming a Star on La Academia
In 1998, Nadia won first prize at a big talent convention. She also recorded some CDs in Oaxaca, including "Enamorada de tí" in 1998.
In 2002, Nadia got a spot on a popular Mexican reality TV show called La Academia, which aired on Televisión Azteca. She impressed everyone with her singing, especially her performance of "Cucurrucucu Paloma." She made it to the final 14 contestants!
During the show, Nadia performed many songs by famous artists like Rocío Dúrcal, Chayanne, and Selena. Even though she finished in fifth place, her amazing performances helped her get a contract with Warner Music to record her very first album.
In February 2003, Nadia's first album, simply called "Nadia," was released. It included popular songs like "La differencia" and "Te voy a olvidar." The album quickly became number one in Mexico and sold over 100,000 copies, earning a gold certification within months.
Nadia was invited back to La Academia in March 2003 for a special version called "Desafio de Estrellas." This show brought together contestants from the first two seasons. Nadia was one of the top five finalists. On June 13, she was named the runner-up after performing for 30,000 people in Monterrey, Mexico. After this, a special edition of her first album was released, which included a DVD with an interview and live performances.
Nadia's Career After La Academia
In October 2003, Nadia was nominated for two Premio Oye awards. These are like the Mexican version of the Grammy Awards. She was nominated for "Album of the Year" and "Artist of the Year." She won "Album of the Year" on November 15, 2003. That same month, her first album sold over 150,000 copies, reaching platinum status!
In early 2004, Nadia toured the United States to promote her second album, Contigo sí ("With you, yes"). The main song from this album was used as the theme for a soap opera called Soñarás. This album also quickly went gold. Nadia gained fans not just in Mexico and the United States, but also in countries like Guatemala, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic.
Nadia's third album, Endulzame el oido (Sweeten my ears), came out in 2005. It featured two duets, one with Bobby Pulido and another with the group Costumbre.
She later released her fourth album, Mujer (Woman), which included songs like "Abrazame" and "Eternamente Bella." Her fifth album, "Un Poco de Tus Besos," was released in September 2007.
Her sixth album, "A Puro Dolor," came out in March 2008. This album gave Nadia a chance to show her talent in traditional Ranchero music.
On December 3, 2008, Nadia received a nomination for a Grammy Award! She was nominated in the "Best Regional Mexican Album" category for "A Puro Dolor." This made her one of the first contestants from La Academia to be nominated for such a major award.
