Najla Bouden is a smart Tunisian scientist and university professor. She is also known as Najla Bouden Romdhane. She was born on June 29, 1958. From October 2021 to August 2023, she served as the prime minister of Tunisia. This made her the first woman to hold this important job in both Tunisia and the Arab world. Before becoming prime minister, she worked in the education ministry in 2011.

Early Life and Education
Najla Bouden was born in Kairouan, Tunisia. This city is famous for its history.
She studied engineering and graduated in 1983 from a school in Paris, France, called École Spéciale des Travaux Publics. She also earned a special degree called a doctorate in geology. Geology is the study of Earth's rocks and soil. She got this degree in 1987 from Mines ParisTech, another famous school. Her studies focused on how to build things to be safe during earthquakes.
Her Career Journey
Najla Bouden is an engineer and a professor. She taught at the National Engineering School of Tunis and the Tunisia Polytechnic School. Her special area of study is geosciences. This field looks at Earth's systems. She focused on understanding earthquake risks. She even trained many people who work for the Tunisian Petroleum Activities Company.
She also held important jobs at the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. In 2011, she became a Director General there. Later, in 2015, she worked closely with the Minister.
In 2016, she led a big project. It was a $70 million program funded by the World Bank. The program was called "PromEssE." Its goal was to improve university education in Tunisia. This was to help more young people find jobs after they graduated.
Becoming Prime Minister
On September 29, 2021, during a time of political change in Tunisia, President Kais Saied chose Najla Bouden. He asked her to form the country's new government. She took over from Hichem Mechichi, who had left the role earlier.
Her appointment was a very special moment. She became the first woman to be prime minister in Tunisia. This was also a first for the entire Maghreb region and the Arab world. President Saied said her appointment was "an honor to Tunisia and Tunisian women."
On October 11, 2021, she and her new government members took an oath. This happened at the Presidential Palace of Carthage.
On August 1, 2023, Najla Bouden left her position. Ahmed Hachani then became the new prime minister.
Personal Life
Najla Bouden's father, Mohamed Bouden, was a professor. He taught at the Sadiki College. He also served as the headmaster of Lycée Alaoui. All four of her brothers and sisters are also scientists.
Najla Bouden is married to Kamel Romdhane. He is an ophthalmologist, which is an eye doctor. They have two children together.
