Najla Bouden (born 29 June 1958) is a Tunisian geologist and university professor. She made history by becoming the first female prime minister of Tunisia and the first woman to hold this position in the entire Arab world. She served as Prime Minister from October 2021 to August 2023. Before this, she worked in the education ministry in 2011.

Early Life and Education
Najla Bouden was born on June 29, 1958, in Kairouan, Tunisia. She is an engineer who graduated from a special public works school in Paris in 1983.
She also earned a doctorate degree in geology in 1987. Her studies focused on earthquake engineering, which is about how buildings can withstand earthquakes.
Professional Career
Najla Bouden is a highly skilled engineer and a professor. She taught at important universities in Tunisia, like the National Engineering School of Tunis. Her main area of study was geosciences, which includes understanding the Earth's structure.
She focused on studying seismic hazards, which means understanding the dangers of earthquakes. Her work helped train many experts in the oil industry in Tunisia.
Bouden also held important roles in the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. In 2011, she became a Director General within the Ministry. Later, in 2015, she worked closely with the Minister.
In 2016, she led a big project funded by the World Bank. This project aimed to improve university education in Tunisia. The goal was to help more university graduates find jobs, which is a big issue in the country.
Political Career
On September 29, 2021, during a time of political change in Tunisia, President Kais Saied chose Najla Bouden to lead the country's new government. She took over from the previous Prime Minister, Hichem Mechichi.
Her appointment was a very important moment. She became the first woman to be Prime Minister in Tunisia, the Maghreb region, and the entire Arab world. President Saied said her appointment was "an honor to Tunisia and Tunisian women."
On October 11, 2021, she and her government members took their official oath. This ceremony happened at the Presidential Palace of Carthage.
Najla Bouden served as Prime Minister until August 1, 2023. She was then replaced by Ahmed Hachani.
Personal Life
Najla Bouden's father, Mohamed Bouden, was a professor and a school headmaster. All four of her brothers and sisters are also scientists.
She is married to Kamel Romdhane, who is an eye doctor. They have two children together.
Honours
In 2016, Najla Bouden was recognized for her achievements. She received the title of Officer of the National Order of Merit of Tunisia. This is a special award given to people who have done great things for their country.
