Who is Naledge?
His Early Life and Education
Naledge grew up in the South Side of Chicago. His parents were experts in mental health. Naledge showed a talent for writing lyrics when he was young. By age fourteen, he joined a local rap group called FFC. He also loved learning. At sixteen, he wrote and published a book called “The Straight Jab.”
After high school, Naledge went to the University of Pennsylvania. He studied Communications and Sociology. There, he joined the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He also met Michael Aguilar, a hip-hop producer known as Double-O. They started working together and formed the group Kidz in the Hall.
Making Music with Kidz in the Hall
After Naledge graduated in 2004, he and Double-O signed with Rawkus Records. In 2006, they released their first album, School Was My Hustle.
In 2007, Kidz in the Hall made a song called "Work To Do." This song supported Barack Obama for president. Obama had ties to Naledge's hometown of Chicago. They were among the first artists to support him with their music.
In November 2007, Kidz in the Hall signed with Duck Down Records. This is an independent music label. Their second album, The In Crowd, came out in May 2008. Its main song, "Drivin' Down the Block," used parts of other famous hip-hop songs. Their song "Blackout" was even featured in the Madden '09 video game. Their album Land of Make Believe was released in 2010. It featured many guest artists.
