This style mixed action, comedy, and romance, and was very popular in the 1970s and 1980s. He also wrote and produced Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988). This movie set the standard for musical romance films in the 1990s. A book about his films, called Music, Masti, Modernity: The Cinema of Nasir Husain, was written by Akshay Manwani.

Nasir Hussain's Film Journey
Starting His Career
Nasir Hussain began his film career in 1948. He joined a film studio called Filmistan as a writer. He wrote many famous films for them, including Anarkali (1953), Munimji (1955), and Paying Guest (1957). Filmistan was known for making movies with good music and popular stars.
Sashadhar Mukherjee, a key person at Filmistan, gave Hussain his first chance to direct. This was for the film Tumsa Nahin Dekha. This movie helped make Shammi Kapoor a big star. Hussain and Kapoor then made another hit film, Dil Deke Dekho (1959). This movie also introduced Asha Parekh, who became a lead actress in many of Hussain's films.
Becoming a Producer and Director
After working for other studios, Nasir Hussain started his own company, Nasir Hussain Films. He became a producer and director, making many musical hits. Some of these popular films include Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon (1963), Teesri Manzil (1966), and Caravan (1971).
He often worked with the lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri and the music composer R.D. Burman. They created many memorable songs together. Their collaborations included Teesri Manzil, Caravan, and Yaadon Ki Baraat.
Hussain wrote and produced the popular musical film Teesri Manzil. Vijay Anand directed it, and it starred Shammi Kapoor and Asha Parekh. For this film, Hussain hired R.D. Burman to compose the music for the first time. The songs became huge hits. After this success, Burman composed music for all of Hussain's films for the next 19 years.
His film Yaadon Ki Baraat (1973) was written by the famous duo Salim–Javed. This movie is known as the first "masala film." It mixed different genres like action, comedy, and romance, which became a very popular style in Bollywood.
Later Years and Legacy
In the 1980s, some of Hussain's films like Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai (1981) and Zabardast (1985) were not as successful. His son, Mansoor Khan, then took over the main directing roles at Nasir Hussain Films. However, Nasir Hussain continued to write scripts.
He wrote the scripts for important films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992). In Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, he introduced his nephew, Aamir Khan, as a hero. This film was a major turning point in Hindi cinema. It set the standard for Bollywood musical romance films that were very popular throughout the 1990s.
In 1996, Nasir Hussain received a special Filmfare Award. This award recognized his huge contributions to Hindi cinema.
