Lake Michigan | The AMERICA was a 137-foot-long ship built in 1873. It had three masts and was designed to fit through the Welland Canal. This ship carried grain and lumber to places as far as New York. It also brought coal back. Sadly, it sank in 1880 after hitting a boat full of stones. | |
