Im Na-yeon (born September 22, 1995), known simply as Nayeon, is a popular South Korean singer. She became famous as a member of the K-pop girl group Twice. This group was formed by JYP Entertainment through a TV show called Sixteen in 2015.

Nayeon released her first solo music album, an extended play (EP) called Im Nayeon, in June 2022. This album quickly became number one in South Korea. It also reached number seven on the US Billboard 200 chart. This made her the first South Korean solo singer to get into the top 10 of that chart. Her main song from the album, "Pop!", was very successful. It reached number two in South Korea and made it to the top ten in six other countries. In 2024, Nayeon had another number-one album in South Korea. Her second EP, Na, also reached the top ten on the US Billboard 200.

Early Life and Beginnings

Im Na-yeon was born on September 22, 1995, in Seoul, South Korea. When she was a child, Nayeon took part in a modeling contest. There, she was noticed by JYP Entertainment, a big music company.

Her mother first didn't want her to join show business because she was so young. But Nayeon secretly went to JYP Entertainment's audition on September 15, 2010. After that, she became a trainee, which means she trained to become a singer. In 2013, she was going to be part of a girl group called 6mix, but the group never officially started. She also appeared in a TV show called Dream High 2 in 2012.

Nayeon's Education Journey

Nayeon went to Seoul Myeongwon Elementary School, Seongdeok Girls' Middle School, and Apgujeong High School. Before she debuted with Twice, she studied at Konkuk University. She was in the department for Theater and Film Arts. In 2018, she shared that she took a break from her studies. This was because her schedule with Twice became very busy.

Music Career Highlights

Starting with Sixteen and Twice

In 2015, Nayeon joined a TV reality show called Sixteen. This show was a competition to choose the members of a new girl group for JYP Entertainment. The group would be named Twice. Nayeon was one of the nine people chosen to be in the final group.

In October 2015, Nayeon officially debuted as a member of Twice. They released their first album, an extended play (EP), called The Story Begins.

Nayeon's Solo Debut Success

On May 19, 2022, it was announced that Nayeon would start her solo career. Her first solo EP, Im Nayeon, came out on June 24. On July 10, 2022, Nayeon won her first music show award on SBS Inkigayo. She also won the Best Female Artist award at the 2022 MAMA Awards.

On May 13, 2024, JYP Entertainment shared that Nayeon would release her second solo EP, Na, on June 14.
