Early Life and Training
Im Na-yeon was born in Seoul, South Korea, on September 22, 1995. When she was a child, Nayeon took part in a modeling contest. There, she was noticed by JYP Entertainment, a big music company.
Even though her mother first didn't want her to join show business because she was so young, Nayeon secretly went to the company's audition in 2010. After that, she became a "trainee." This means she trained for many years to become a K-pop idol. In 2014, she was supposed to join a girl group called 6mix, but the group never started because some members left. She also appeared briefly in a TV show called Dream High 2 in 2012.
Schooling
Nayeon went to Seoul Myeongwon Elementary School, Seongdeok Girls' Middle School, and Apgujeong High School. Before she debuted with Twice, she studied Theater and Film Arts at Konkuk University. In 2018, she shared that she took a break from her studies because her schedule with Twice was very busy.
Music Career
Becoming a Star: Sixteen, Twice, and Solo Music
In 2015, Nayeon joined a TV reality show called Sixteen. This show was a competition to choose the members for a new girl group from JYP Entertainment. In October 2015, Nayeon officially started her career with Twice when they released their first mini-album, The Story Begins.
On May 19, 2022, it was announced that Nayeon would release her own solo music. Her first solo mini-album, Im Nayeon, came out on June 24. This mini-album has seven songs, including the main song "Pop!". It also features other artists like Wonstein and Felix from Stray Kids. "Pop!" was very popular and reached number two on South Korea's music charts. On July 10, Nayeon won her first music show award for "Pop!". She also won the "Best Female Artist" award at the 2022 MAMA Awards.
Nayeon's second mini-album, Na, was released on June 14, 2024. It also has seven songs, with "ABCD" as the main track. This album includes collaborations with Sam Kim and Julie from Kiss of Life. In February 2025, Nayeon performed solo in Japan for the first time at a music festival. After her performance, her cover of "Kimagure Romantic" by Ikimonogakari became very popular online. Because of this, she released her cover as a digital song on May 30, 2025.
