Neptune Fountain facts for kids
The Neptune Fountain (French: Bassin de Neptune) is a famous fountain at the amazing Palace of Versailles in France. It was designed by André Le Nôtre, a well-known landscape artist. Building the fountain took place between 1679 and 1681.
When it was first built, people called it the Pool Below the Dragon or the Fir Tree Pool. This beautiful fountain is found at the end of a long path in the gardens. This path also features the Water Walk and the Dragon Fountain. In 1740, new lead sculptures were added to the fountain. King Louis XV of France officially opened the newly finished fountain.

Amazing Water Jets and Sculptures
The Neptune Fountain is truly special because it has 99 jets of water! These jets create powerful and varied water displays. People loved watching the water dance over the sculptures.
The fountain is decorated with many beautiful pieces of art. You can see stone vases and cute sea cupids. There are also three main sculpture groups. These show Neptune and Amphitrite (made by L. A. Adam), Proteus (by Bouchardin), and Ocean (by Jean-Baptise Lemoyne).
The Neptune Fountain is the biggest fountain pool in all the gardens of Versailles. During summer evenings, fireworks light up the sky. Their bright colors are reflected in the fountain's large pool, making a spectacular show.
