The Neuchâtel District is a special area in Switzerland. It's one of six districts in the Canton of Neuchâtel. Think of a canton like a state or a large region. The main town, or capital, of this district is Neuchâtel. Many people live here – it has a population of 53,744 as of 31 December 2020.

Changes Over Time
Sometimes, smaller towns or villages decide to join together to form a larger municipality. This is called a merger. Here are some changes that happened in the Neuchâtel District:
- On 1 January 1966, the municipality of Landeron-Combes changed its name to Le Landeron.
- On 1 January 2009, two municipalities, Marin-Epagnier and Thielle-Wavre, merged to create a new, bigger municipality called La Tène.
