The Neuchâtel District is a special area in Switzerland. It's one of six districts in the Canton of Neuchâtel. Think of a canton like a state or a large region. The main town, or capital, of this district is Neuchâtel. Many people live here – it has a population of 53,744 as of 31 December 2020.

Towns and Villages

The Neuchâtel District is made up of nine different towns and villages, which are called municipalities. Each municipality has its own local government. Here's a list of them:

Changes Over Time

Sometimes, smaller towns or villages decide to join together to form a larger municipality. This is called a merger. Here are some changes that happened in the Neuchâtel District:

• On 1 January 1966, the municipality of Landeron-Combes changed its name to Le Landeron.
• On 1 January 2009, two municipalities, Marin-Epagnier and Thielle-Wavre, merged to create a new, bigger municipality called La Tène.
