New Franklin is a city located in Summit County, Ohio, in the United States. It is in the northeastern part of the state. In 2020, about 13,877 people lived there. New Franklin is part of the larger Akron metropolitan area.

History of New Franklin
New Franklin started as a village in 1997. It was created from a part of Franklin Township. This was done to stop nearby cities from taking over its land.
Growth and City Status
In November 2003, people in Franklin Township and New Franklin voted to join together. This merger happened on January 1, 2005. The village of New Franklin then officially became a city on March 5, 2006.
Name Change Vote
On November 6, 2007, city residents voted on changing the city's name. They voted against changing it to Portage Lakes. About 57% voted no, and 42% voted yes.
Early Beginnings
The area was first known as Franklin Township. It was founded way back in 1817. The village of New Franklin was always a part of this larger township.

New Franklin is located in a busy area of Ohio. It shares borders with several other places.
Neighboring Areas
To the north, New Franklin is next to Coventry Township and the cities of Barberton and Norton. To the southwest, it borders Clinton and Chippewa Township in Wayne County. To the east, it is next to Green. To the south, it borders Lawrence Township in Stark County.

The city covers a total area of about 26.6 square miles (68.9 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 25 square miles (64.7 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 1.6 square miles (4.2 square kilometers), is water.
