The Newberry Mountains are a cool mountain range in California. You can find them in the Mojave Desert, a famous desert area. They are located southeast of a town called Barstow.
These mountains are part of San Bernardino County, California. Nearby, you'll find the Rodman Mountains to the southeast and the Ord Mountains to the southwest.
If you're traveling, historic U.S. Route 66 and the modern Interstate 40 pass just north of the mountains. The small community of Newberry Springs, California is also located there.
Newberry Mountains Wilderness Area
A special part of the Newberry Mountains is protected as the Newberry Mountains Wilderness. This area covers a huge space of 26,102 acres. It was created in 1994 to keep the land wild and natural.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management takes care of this wilderness area. They make sure it stays untouched for plants, animals, and people to enjoy. The height of the land in this area changes a lot. It goes from about 2,200 feet (670 meters) up to 5,100 feet (1,554 meters).
