Newbury is a small, official village located in the town of Newbury. It is part of Orange County in the state of Vermont, United States. In 2020, about 447 people lived there.

Discovering Newbury's Past
Newbury village was first settled in 1763. It was one of the first colonial settlements north of Charlestown, New Hampshire. This area grew quickly because of its rich farmland. The Connecticut River had wide, curving bends called oxbows. These oxbows created very fertile land, perfect for farming.
In the 1800s, Newbury became an important local market. It was also a popular stop for stagecoaches. The village grew even more when the Newbury Seminary was founded in the 1830s.
Newbury's Historic Buildings
The main part of Newbury village is a special area called the Newbury Village Historic District. This district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means its buildings are important because of their history and design. It was added to the list in 1983.
This historic area covers about 73 acres (29.5 hectares). It includes 93 important buildings around the village green. These buildings show off early 19th-century architecture. You can see examples of Classical Revival style, which looks back to ancient Greek and Roman designs.
Did you know that Boston University, a very large university, started here? It began as the Newbury Biblical Institute. This Methodist school was founded in Newbury, Vermont, in 1839.
