Newtown Creek is a small stream, also called a tributary, located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. It starts in Newtown Township and flows into the Neshaminy Creek. This creek is an important part of the larger Delaware River watershed.

The famous Newtown Creek Bridge on Centre Avenue is a very old and important structure. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 because of its historical value.

About the Creek's Flow

Newtown Creek begins near Stoopville Road. It flows mostly south, passing by the western side of Newtown Borough. Eventually, it joins the Neshaminy Creek. The total area of land that drains water into Newtown Creek, known as its watershed, is about 6.29 square miles (16.3 km2).

Creek Branches

Newtown Creek has one small branch, or tributary, that doesn't have a specific name. This branch joins the main creek near Wright's Road.

Understanding the Rocks and Land

Newtown Creek flows through an area known as the Piedmont Province. The rocks found here are part of the Lockatong Formation. These are sedimentary rocks that formed a very long time ago during the Upper Triassic period.

These rocks include:

  • Argillite: A type of rock made from hardened clay.
  • Shale: A soft, layered rock.
  • Some limestone: A rock made mostly of calcium carbonate.
