No Brand Con is a super fun three-day event that happens every spring in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. It's a special gathering called an anime convention, where fans of Japanese animation (anime) and comics (manga) come together. The convention takes place at the Chula Vista Resort. It was started by students from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire who loved anime. The name "No Brand Con" comes from a song in an anime called Here Is Greenwood.
What You Can Do at No Brand Con
No Brand Con is packed with exciting activities for everyone! You can watch lots of different anime shows and movies. There's a cool contest where people create their own anime music videos.
You can also explore the Artist Alley, where talented artists sell their unique creations. If you love games, you'll find plenty of board games and video game tournaments to join. There's also a dealers room where you can buy comics, figures, and other cool stuff.
You might even get to meet real voice actors who bring your favorite anime characters to life! Plus, there are panels where you can learn more about anime, manga, and Japanese culture.
A Look at No Brand Con's Journey
No Brand Con has moved to different places over the years to make sure everyone has enough space and fun!
In 2005, the convention moved to the Plaza Hotel and Suites. This new spot allowed them to sell food and stay open for a full 24 hours! From 2006 to 2010, the event was held at the Ramada Inn Convention Center. It then returned to the Plaza Hotel and Suites in 2011. That year, the convention helped bring about $277,000 to the local economy in Eau Claire. They even held a special event to help the Japanese Red Cross.
In 2016, No Brand Con moved to its current home, the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. This bigger location offers even more space for all the fun activities.
Sadly, No Brand Con 2020 and 2021 had to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But the convention has since returned, bringing back all the excitement for anime fans!
