Noel Loomis (born April 3, 1905 – died September 7, 1969) was an American writer. He was famous for his exciting stories, especially Westerns, mysteries, and science fiction. He wrote many books and stories in the middle of the 1900s.
Noel Loomis grew up in the American West. This helped him write a detailed history of the famous Wells Fargo company.

Noel Miller Loomis was born on April 3, 1905. His hometown was Wakita, in what was then the Oklahoma Territory. He also grew up in Texico, New Mexico, and Slaton, Texas.
Later in life, from 1956, he lived in Descanso, California. In 1945, he married Dorothy Moore Green, who was also a writer.
His Writing Career
Noel Loomis was a very busy writer for most of his life. He worked as a freelance writer from 1929 to 1979. A freelance writer is someone who works for themselves and sells their stories to different publishers.
He also had many other jobs. He worked as a printer, a newspaperman, and an editor.
Awards and Recognition
Noel Loomis received several awards for his writing:
- In 1954 and 1955, he was the president of the Western Writers of America. This is a group for authors who write Western stories.
- In 1958, he won a Spur Award for his novel Short Cut to Red River. The Spur Award is a top honor for writers of Western fiction.
- In 1959, he won another Spur Award for his short story, Grandfather Out of the Past.

From 1958 to 1969, Noel Loomis taught English. He was an instructor at San Diego State College in California. He also directed a Writers Workshop from 1963 to 1969. This workshop helped other writers improve their skills.
