Nolton Haven is a tiny village located in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It sits right on the coast of St Bride's Bay. This small community is part of the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Nolton Haven is found about halfway along the coast of St Bride's Bay. It is grouped together with the nearby village of Nolton and the village of Roch. These three places form the Nolton and Roch community.
What to See and Do
Nolton Haven is a very small place. It has only a few houses and a pub right by a shingle beach. This beach is made up of small, smooth stones instead of sand.
The famous Pembrokeshire Coast Path goes right through the village. This path is great for walking and exploring the coastline. Since 2012, this route has also been part of the longer Wales Coast Path.
If you like cycling, part of National Cycle Network route 4 also passes through Nolton Haven. This means you can explore the area on your bike.
Rocks and History
Nolton Haven is built on some very old and interesting rocks. It is located at the edge of the Pembrokeshire Coalfield. This means that coal was once found and mined here.
The rocks in this area are mostly sandstones, mudstones, and siltstones. These rocks also contain thin layers of coal. People used to dig for coal in Nolton Haven during the 1800s and early 1900s. There were two main mining spots: Nolton Colliery and Black Cliff Colliery.
The rocks here were pushed and folded a long, long time ago. This means they often tilt at steep angles. You can see these interesting rock layers in the cliffs around the bay.
