Northfield is a small city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. It is known as a "home rule-class city," which means it has the power to manage its own local affairs. In 2010, about 1,020 people lived there.

Northfield's History and Growth
Northfield became an official city in July 1965. This happened partly because people wanted to avoid being taken over by the nearby city of St. Matthews, Kentucky. The city was built on land that used to be part of a very large horse farm called Glenview.
The 1974 Tornado Outbreak
Northfield was hit hard by a powerful tornado on April 3, 1974. This tornado was rated as an F4, which is very strong. It was part of a huge event called the 1974 Super Outbreak. During this outbreak, 148 tornadoes struck 13 U.S. states and one part of Canada.
Where is Northfield Located?
Northfield is in the northeastern part of Jefferson County, Kentucky. It shares its borders with a few other places. To the north, you'll find Glenview Manor, Kentucky. To the south, it borders Crossgate, Kentucky. The rest of its borders are with the larger area of Louisville/Jefferson County. Downtown Louisville is about 8 miles (13 km) to the southwest.

From 1971 to 1980, the Alpha 3 Cinema in Holiday Manor was a popular place to watch special "arthouse" movies in Louisville.
