Novalles is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the Vaud canton, which is like a state or region. Novalles is part of the Jura-Nord Vaudois district.

History of Novalles

Novalles is quite old! The first time it was ever written about was in the year 1179. Back then, its name was Novellis.

Geography and Landscape

Novalles covers an area of about 2.06 square kilometers. Almost half of this land, about 46.6%, is used for farming. Another large part, about 49%, is covered by forests. The rest of the land, about 4.4%, has buildings and roads.

Most of the forested land is covered with thick, heavy trees. For farming, people grow crops on about 32.5% of the land. They use 12.1% for pastures where animals graze. A small part, 1.9%, is used for orchards or growing grapes.

Novalles used to be part of the Grandson District. But in 2006, that district was changed. Novalles then became part of the new Jura-Nord Vaudois district.

The town is located northwest of Grandson. It sits on a flat area called a plateau. It is also next to the Arnon river. Novalles is made up of the main village, which is called a haufendorf village. This means it's an old, unplanned village with buildings close together around a central area. There is also a tiny village nearby called Le Moulin.
