Giez is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Switzerland. It is part of the canton of Vaud, in the Jura-Nord Vaudois area. Giez is found on a high plateau between Lake Neuchatel and the Jura Mountains.

History of Giez

Giez was first mentioned in old records in the year 1011. Back then, its name was written as Gies.

Geography of Giez

Giez covers an area of about 4.77 square kilometers (1.84 square miles). A large part of this land, about 58.5%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 35.2% of the area. The remaining land, about 5.7%, has buildings and roads. A very small part, 0.4%, is made up of rivers or lakes.

Most of the forested land is covered with thick forests. For farming, people grow crops on about 50.3% of the land. Another 6.7% is used for pastures where animals graze. A small part, 1.5%, is used for orchards or growing grapes. All the water in Giez is from flowing rivers and streams.

Giez used to be part of the Grandson District. But on August 31, 2006, that district was closed. Giez then became part of the newer Jura-North Vaudois District.
