Nowendoc is a small village and parish located in the Northern Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia. It is about 360 kilometers north of Sydney, which is the capital city of New South Wales. Nowendoc is also about 71 kilometers south of Walcha. A main road called Thunderbolts Way passes near the village, connecting it to other towns.

Nowendoc's Early History

In 1836, a man named William Telfer marked a path through this area. This path helped the Australian Agricultural Company (AACo) move their sheep. Nowendoc became one of their resting spots for sheep between 1840 and 1845.

In 1857, John Hall planned the village of Nowendoc. Later, in 1872, Thomas Laurie found gold here! Soon, about 100 people came to look for gold. However, by 1945, most of the gold mining had stopped. Some people also started dairy farming in the early days.

The name Nowendoc comes from the Worimi language. It means 'rough ground'.
