Nub Peak is a mountain summit located in Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park, in the beautiful Canadian Rockies of British Columbia, Canada. It stands tall at 2,746-metre (9,009-foot). The mountain is famous for its amazing views of Mount Assiniboine and the sparkling lakes and peaks around it.

Nub Peak got its descriptive name in 1924. It even has two "arms" or ridges extending from it: Chucks Ridge to the southwest and Nublet to the southeast.

About Nub Peak's Location

Nub Peak is found north of the Sunburst Peaks. Between them, you'll find two pretty lakes: Elizabeth Lake and Cerulean Lake. The Continental Divide, which separates rivers flowing to different oceans, is about 3.5 km (2.2 mi) to the east. The nearest higher mountain is Nestor Peak, which is about 4.0 km (2.5 mi) to the west.

How Nub Peak Was Formed

Nub Peak is made of sedimentary rock. This type of rock forms when layers of sand, mud, and tiny bits of ancient sea creatures settle at the bottom of oceans over millions of years. These layers then get squished and hardened into rock.

The rocks of Nub Peak were formed during the Cambrian period, which was a very long time ago! Later, during a time called the Laramide orogeny, huge forces pushed these rocks eastward. This caused them to slide over younger rocks, creating the mountain shapes we see today.

Climate Around Nub Peak

Nub Peak is in a subarctic climate zone. This means it has very cold and snowy winters. Temperatures can drop below −20 °C, and with the wind, it can feel even colder, sometimes below −30 °C. Summers are usually mild and pleasant.
