Nyagan's History and Economy

Nyagan is one of the newer towns in Western Siberia. It started in 1965 as a place for the forestry industry. This means it was important for cutting down trees and processing wood. At first, it was called Nyakh (Нях). The name Nyagan was given to the town on August 15, 1985.

Today, Nyagan is mainly known for its petroleum (oil) and natural gas industries. These industries are very important for Russia's economy. The area around Nyagan is quite wet, with many swamps and waterlogged lands. The weather can also change very quickly, with sudden drops in temperature.

A railway line from Yekaterinburg to the Ob region has passed through Nyagan since April 2, 1967. This railway helps transport goods and people. Nyagan Airport opened in 1993. It handles different types of Russian airplanes like the Antonov An-24, Yakovlev Yak-40, and Tupolev Tu-134.

Nyagan's Climate

Nyagan has a subarctic climate. This means it has warm or mild summers. But its winters are very long and extremely cold. Snow and ice cover the ground for many months.

Rain and snow fall throughout the year. However, there is usually more precipitation (rain or snow) during the summer months.
